All Souls Day is a holy day set aside for honoring the dead. In countries with a Christian tradition, it is customary during this day or period to visit the graveyard and family grave to light a candle or to lay living flowers on it to symbolize the belief in eternal life and to demonstrate the belief that life does not end with a grave. On All Souls Day, we not only remember the dead, but we apply our efforts, through prayer, almsgiving, and the Mass, to their release from Purgatory. The celebration of All Souls' Day is on 2 November and follows All Saints' Day.
Dušičky (All Souls' Day) - the memory of all the deceased. On this day we devote the memory to our deceased loved ones. Join us and light the candles in the Forest cemetery for all you loved and for the souls of all good people who have passed away. Let yourself be carried away by the atmosphere of a luminescent cemetery. We will meet on 2nd of November, at 6 pm in front of Palach dorms. Together we go to the Forest cemetery to light the candles in the memory of the deceased.
Stripes and stars, crosses and triangles. Flags have different shapes and colours, and they represent various parts of the world. But now it is time for all of the different flags to come to one place and unite. As the international community of students in Hradec Králové is growing bigger every semester, we would like to celebrate the diversity that they bring with them.
For this reason, we would like to meet all of you at the university campus and then head for a short parade around the city centre. As a bonus, you might learn some interesting facts about Hradec Králové from our Czech student. The only thing you need to bring with you is the flag of your country so we can easily see from where did you come to study in the Czech Republic. (We can provide you with some flags, but please if you have your own flag, bring it with you!)
If you feel a bit lost in Hradec, this is the perfect offer for you!
We will walk around the city with you and show you some monuments and also the important places – like gym, swimming pool, shops, pubs and party places… ;)
WHEN:Tuesday24 of September WHERE: Meeting at Palachova reception at 15:30 and about 16:15 at Hotel Garni reception
Burning the Witches Fire. Fun. Food. But also Tradition. These four words describe the Czech tradition of „Burning the Witches“ perfectly. An event which takes place on 30th of April in all Czech villages and cities. People gather together, drink, dance, barbecue and as a great ending to the day they gather around a big fire and burn a handmade figurine of a witch. We decided to introduce you to this tradition by taking some time outdoors and having a small barbecue over the fire near one of the beautiful lakes in Hradec!
