International students are provided with accommodation in one of the two university dormitories. Students from the University of Hradec Králové (UHK) live at Palachova dormitory, students from Charles university live at Garni dormitory. Both dormitories are situated in the southern part of the city. There is a convenient bus connection to all the faculties as well as to the city center.

Palachova dormitory

Palachova is a block of flats with entrances marked A-G. There are seven floors in each entrance and three two-room flats on each floor.

Students usually share a room with one or two students, according to the size of a flat, but the maximum number of students in one flat is six. In building G, where most of you will be accommodated, the flats are made for five people: 3 in the first room and 2 in the room behind it. The kitchen and sanitary facilities are shared for each flat. There is a fridge with a freezer and an electric stove of two hot plates in the kitchen, but it is not equipped with kitchenware. Some things might be left there by previous flat occupants. Each student is provided with a desk, a bed with a pillow, a duvet and bed linen.

At the dormitory grounds, there is a playing field. The piano room and launderette are situated in the dormitory basement. You can access all the facilities by presenting your ISIC Card at the reception. Some of the facilities are paid for, for example, the laundry service which costs 40CZK for the first two hours and another 20CZK for the third hour. The keys should be kept with you for a maximum of 3 hours. Dormitories offer the exchange of bedlinen on pre-specified days for free (once per month, usually in the first week).

Included in the rent is the cleaning of the bathroom and toilet by the dormitory cleaning ladies (Approximately once every two weeks, not during holidays). The rest of the apartment, you should keep clean yourself and check-ups are occasionally done. You may receive a fine if your apartment is not up to standard.

The Internet is accessible via wifi connection, but also by wired connection. You will receive your personal login to the WiFi network from your coordinator, usually at registration in your first week. Until then, you can only access the internet by cable and therefore we advise you to bring an ethernet cable.

It is possible to copy and print at the reception. The system is the same at the whole UHK- you need your ISIC card to do that.

Private Accommodation

You can arrange private accommodation in Hradec Králové. However, it only pays off if you share a flat with more people. You should take into account that you won’t be in touch with other international students so often if you live out of the dormitory, which may be a huge disadvantage.
